GPS Coordinates For Points Of Interest

Bogong/Falls Creek | Baw Baw Plateau | Lake Mountain | Mt Stirling

Here we have listed the X and Y co-ordinates for points of interest in several bushwalking areas. Most of the points are huts or other places where people gather, making them likely destinations for parties seeking shelter in poor weather. Most co-ordinates have been derived from GPS readings, but some (marked with the green square) have been taken by eye from a map; they should be treated with even more caution.

Map Coordinates & Zones
The table lists the name of the feature, the method of capturing the co-ordinates (GPS or map), the X and Y co-ordinates in both Australian Geocentric Datum 1966 (AGD66) and Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994 (GDA94) format, and the elevation of the feature. Ensure that your GPS is set to the correct coordinate system (GDA94 or AGD66) before entering data.

Australia is divided into a number of map zones; it is important, particularly when using a GPS, that you also specify the correct map zone for the area you are in. Click icon to view a map of these zones click to see map

The co-ordinates shown here were mostly derived using a GPS. Due to variations in the GPS system, Bush and Alpine Resources does not guarantee that users will be able to reproduce these co-ordinates at any time in the future.

Users should check that their GPS is set to the correct co-ordinate system (typically, AGD66 or GDA94) for the co-ordinates they are entering. You should take care to check the accuracy of the co-ordinates against a map to ensure that they are fit for the intended purpose before setting out.
