Lake Mountain Ski Patrol Sphere
NOTE: This hut was destroyed by bushfire in February 2009.
This odd-looking red sphere is apparently used by the ski patrol as a 'forward base' for emergencies at Lake Mountain. It seems to use similar construction to shelters used by the Australian Antarctic Division in Antarctica, so it looks right at home at Lake Mountain (except in summer, of course). It does not appear to be open to the public during winter (a sign says 'open weekends only') but it was unlocked when we visited it during summer
