about wavelength photography

wavelength photography is a Melbourne based photographic business, specialising in colourful and unique wilderness images of Australia. For over 5 years now Logan and Lloyd Shield have travelled to some of the most inaccessible parts of the continent as well as abroad to capture images that would intrigue and inspire their audience. With many of our wild places on the endangered list, these images serve not only to record the beauty of our landscape, but also to encourage others to become more actively involved in its preservation.

Most of our wilderness images were taken with either a Pentax 645 medium format camera or a Tachihara wooden field camera using a 6x9 roll film back. The images from Nepal and Burma were taken with a Pentax P30t, while the urban images were captured with a Nikon F80.

Fuji Velvia ISO 50, commonly with a polarising filter and 81 series warm up filter, was used for the majority of the wilderness images due to its outstanding colour saturation and fine grain. Other films used include Kodak Ektachrome E200 Professional, Kodak Elite Chrome 200 and Fuji Provia 100.

biographies

Lloyd Shield

To see the ever-changing interaction of landscape and light is one of life’s great pleasures. To photograph this is an added joy. Little wonder then, with his long-standing pursuits of bushwalking and photography, that landscape is his photographic passion. He particularly enjoys coastal scenery while urban or rural landscape structures are also a great interest.

Lloyd's major qualifications are in the medical field but in order to improve his photographic knowledge and expertise, and to gain formal recognition in the discipline, he completed a four year part time Advanced Diploma of Photography in 2005.
